Steel grating ships as structure, not as solid metal: between a bearing bar pitch of 11–60 mm and a cross bar pitch of 12.5–100 mm, most of a panel's area is open space. That is why two quotations for the same site can carry freight lines metres apart — the carrier charges less for the steel than for how the panels nest, how they are packed and where the seller's price stops. Our fabrication covers welded steel grating panels from 1000 × 1000 mm up to 1500 × 6000 mm. We are not the maker, seller or agent of any third-party grating brand.

Standard panels in 1000 × 2000 mm and 1200 × 2400 mm stack flat and fill a container predictably. Cut-to-shape panels — circular, trapezoidal, L, U, free-form, up to 1500 × 6000 mm — carry their outline as dead space, so a mixed order prices freight differently from a square-metre figure. Ask a supplier to quote the shipment, not the square metres.
Loose bundles, pallets and crates are three different freight prices and three different arrival conditions. Bundles ship leanest and arrive scuffed; pallets add weight and save panels; crates add the most of both and suit panels with banding, cut-outs or a visible finish. Ask how the panels are packed and who pays for that packing — a cheaper line with no packing method named is a price for cargo that has not been imagined yet.
A quotation covers the trip up to a named point, and the named point is where your costs change hands. Ask of any quote: does this price reach the load port, the destination port, or the site gate — and which destination charges are someone else's bill until they become yours? Two quotations compared at different stop points differ by more than their sellers admit.
Duty is charged on what the invoice declares: the classification and the declared value. Both belong in writing with the quotation, because both are read at the border. For the certificate fields and the classification questions to settle early, see our note on certificates of origin and HS codes — the entry paper decides the duty path, and it is settled before sailing or argued after.
A grating lead time is fabrication time plus sailing schedule, and only the first half is the supplier's to give. Ask which half a promised number covers: a date quoted without that split invites a factory excuse for a freight delay and a freight excuse for a factory delay. The verifiable form is simple — fabrication in days, sailing in weeks, each a number on the quotation.
| Cost point | What moves it | The question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean freight | Panel nesting, packing method | How are the panels packed and stacked for this price? |
| Terms boundary | The named point the price reaches | Which named point does this quotation cover? |
| Duty entry | Classification and declared value on the invoice | Are both stated in writing on the invoice? |
| Destination charges | Port handling and delivery beyond the named point | Which charges are not in this quote? |
| Lead time | Fabrication plus sailing schedule | Which half of the quoted lead time is fabrication? |
Why do freight costs differ between grating suppliers? Nesting, packing and the stop point of the price — three variables that rarely match between two quotes. Align them first and the comparison that remains is real.
Can cut-to-shape panels ship with stock panels? Yes — a mixed order, stock panels for straight runs and cut-to-shape panels for the odd bays, moves in one shipment under one document set. Ask for the shipment quoted as a whole.
What should I compare between two grating quotations? The same panel dimensions, the same packing method, the same named point of delivery and the same document list. Anything else is comparing two different shipments that happen to share a site.
Send your panel list for a quotation with packing and terms stated — nesting, packing method and the named point, in writing on the quote.
